Hello Michaelus,

Do you have any composers/songwriters whose music would be similar to what you're looking for?

I have found that MANY of the little compositions that I've been playing to sight-read and to learn quickly are in minor keys and depress the heck out of the family around here, and so they might suit your needs.

This is melancholy, but not that melodramatic, mind.

"Ivan Sings"--the first Ivan song by Aram Khachaturian
"First Loss" or "First Sorrow" by Robert Schumann from the album for the young (NOT from "Scenes from Childhood," which is way more advanced)
Chopin's E minor prelude (with the changing chords in the LH and the one-note mourn in the RH)
Beethoven's Sonata in C#min ("Moonlight") first mvt is not too difficult and is definitely mournful in a way

do you just want non-classical pieces?

i vote for Elton John's 'I want love', which is not too sad but still sentimental and i like the modulation in the middle.

also, "The shadow of your smile", old song but sentimental too.
