I know my pentatonic scales etc. I just need to know how to play different styles. I always play the same types of solos etc. How do you get that real bluesy sound similar to Ray Charles.

If you are looking for a good book on how to play blues piano Mark Harrisons book Blues Piano is an excellent place to get the style down. Also Improvising blues piano by Tim Richards. If you want a great listen check out the Dr.John tapes from Homespun tapes. This stuff is for the advanced player if you are going to try to learn his runs.

You learn SO much from those tapes.

Ok cool, I'll probably get a book for it. I just need to find one thats not too basic. I've looked around a few times and all they have are these beginners blues books that just teach you basic 12 bar blues with comping in the right hand. I want to learn some advanced blues techniques \:\)

I haven't seen the book, but Mark is a friend. We went to school together in LA. He's a very gifted musician and perhaps an even better teacher. I wholeheartedly endorse his teaching methods!!!

Try www.learnpianojazz.com

You have to register and then they have lots of files of downloadable shortish music of all jazz styles.

Plus tons of help forums and so on.

Well worth a visit. Navigation takes time to understand. For me anyhow! Try Root and Lobby Lounge.

Then again I find making up my own blues riffs easy once you get it all in your head by using the subconscious part of the brain. It's a great pleasure to do as blues are very basic to imprompu music I think.
