Suggestions for Boogie Woogie/Rock?

I'm wondering if someone would be able to recommend a couple of pieces for me. I have always played classical piano and cannot improvise or play "by ear" . I love boogie woogie especially with a touch of rock. My technique is that of most Beethovan Sonatas, the Chopin Ballades etc. Can anyone recommend some really fun pices that are available in sheet music. So far the stuff I've found is too easy and doesn't sound like much but I don't have the ability to embellish it myself.

Not sure I can help but do you listen to Boogie ? if so is it the traditional format like Pine Tops Boogie, the Albert Ammons and Mead Lux Lewis duo etc? I'm sure Sheet Music is avaialable. I cannot speak about Rock variations. The pure B W is good enough for me! Alan PS I should visit www.jazzbooks.com this is the site of Jamey Aebersold I think he can help you.

Some classics have been painstakingly transcribed and are available on this site: http://www.boogie-music.com/boogie.htm The labour of transcription will cost you, though. I have often fancied a stab at Swannee River - this always puts me in a good mood when I hear it.

Thanks so much everyone for your suggestions. They all look good. Andrewp, that's exactly what I was looking for. However I just need to figure out how to get over the language barrier or find them for sale in the US but at least I know they exist.
The other sites all look promising also. I'll probably start off with the Bumble Bee and then go for a few of the collections on the other sites. This will definitely keep me busy for awhile.
Thanks again! Linda

If you click on "home" at the bottom of boogie-music.com/boogie.htm, you will see a place to click on English at the top left.
Everything is then in English, but it being an Austrian site, the prices are in Euros. The Euro is about 1.35 dollars right now.

Find some James Booker CD's and give it a listen, he is the best there is IMO. His left hand rhythms are a bit tricky though. One of my favorite's is his rendition of Pine Top Boogie.

One of the truly all-time great Boogie-Rock pianists is Dr. John (Mac Rebenac). He has a couple of video DVDs available that actually show you (slowed down in some examples) how he accomplishes his boogie style. The series is put out by "Homespun Tapes". (Homespuntapes.com). Also, if you can get your hands on some old Jerry Lee Lewis recordings and sit down one afternoon with a CD Player on your piano, like I used to do. Chuck Berry had an amazing piano player named Johnny Johnson. He's on almost all of the old recordings. He is considered the innovator of the "boogie-rock" piano style. It would do you good to listen to these artists to get a feel for the technique before just delving into a book and simply playing note-for-note. Other great boogey'n R&R piano players to look for would be stuff by Paul Griffin, Billy Preston, Chuck Leavell and Nicky Hopkins. An absolutely great compilation songbook called "Jazz, Blues, Boogie & Swing For Piano" is published by Hal Leonard. The book is like 30 years old and is still published to this day. Has lots of advanced boogie and blues pieces that would be challenging for a musician at your level. As a matter of fact, there are a couple of boogie pieces by the legendary Jay McShann who I was saddend to hear died today at like 91. He continued to play piano right up to the last week of his life.
