Dave Brubeck named one of his sons Darius. There was a story in the quartet's newsletter about Darius Brubeck visiting Madame Milhaud in Paris last year. She is 102 years old now.

You cannot discount the importance of classical education on jazz. Duke Ellington was a grandson student of Dvorak, after all.

Sweet Georgia Brown, Honey Suckle Rose, Mack The Knife, Aint' Misbehavin and Cheek To Cheek are all very catchy jazz tunes.

Jobim's rhythm ARE a lot of fun, Webs, and I have ALWAYS enjoyed the subtle way he works his chords. I don't know if he is unique in that ... perhaps it was common in that area of the world before him, but he certainly has taken it to polished levels. I really like what he does.

Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado ) No More Blues, Girl from that famous beach smile are some others that came to mind, though they may not be as "peppy" as the ones you mentioned.

No More Blues is great! I started playing his songs a few years ago and really like them..found some arrangements in a book called The Lighter Side of Jazz, Hal Leonard..it's intermediate to advanced and has alot of good solos.

Robbins Nest is pretty catchy at least to me. I don't know why it isn't played more.

It's by Illinois Jacquet and Sir Charles Thompson.

Another jazz tune that will wow the crowd is Linus and Lucy by Vince Guraldi. Try to avoid the easy sheet music version. There are several good versions out there. Ab is the original key but Hal Leanord puts out a version in G that might be a bit easier. Putting hands together is not as easy as you may think.
