More info on Rhapsody in Blue as to why I want input from members. Hello. On Sept. 30th I posted and asked if anyone plays Rhapsody In Blue and I asked for info. I got some private messages and they asked what information do I need? I want to share with you members too and not all private messages please. I do not know how to copy and paste yet. Chuckles. I really do not. Maybe some of you want to play this too but not the long difficult 31 page composition, the original written by George Gershwin. With your information I will learn what skill level one needs to be to perform the original 31 page arrangement. So if you do play the 31 page arrangement tell me your level of piano studies please. Thank you. Onward. The reason I want to know is I will play the 31 page arrangement one day, I do have this one, in time, but, I wanted others to share how they got there and how long it took them and what method of study, etc? Now I want to know if any of you have scaled down arrangements, any level, from easy to difficult. I will play one of them myself until I can perform the 31 page original and it might take me a year to learn all 31 pages. Wanting to know what you think of , your own words, your arrangement you play, your satisfacton level, etc? I want to hear about all arrangements for myself and for my piano friends, who are at various performance levels.. Thank you for sharing and I appreciate all input you have from the very easy level to the very, very difficult level of perfromance of this composition. Thank you in advance for your reply. Sandy B

I would start with Gershwin's three preludes first. That would get you warmed up 193866.

Best, John
Stop analyzing; just compose the damn thing!

Thank you Johnny-Boy and I will check this out. I just returned from near Uniontown, PA, Fairchance. I was blessed to attend the Pittsburgh Symphony, conductors, Sir Andrew Davis and Marvin Hamlisch. This adds so much to my elder years with the wonderful memories, Fallingwater was a treat as other places we visited. The people are very friendly and helpful in this area of PA. Excellent visit. Again your input is apppreciated. Sandy B

Thank you so very much for your private email with priceless information on Rhapsody in Blue, your methods of study and performance techniques outlined. Thank you a million times. I just needed someone to state I did this and here is how you can too. I am saying," I will too and how long will this 31 page original score take to learn? My answer,"As long as it takes." Sandy B

I tried working through the solo on and off over the past few years. But I always put it off for shorter more integrated pieces. Also, every time I play it I have difficulty in dispelling Tom and Jerry from my mind. From checking out Gershwin's original piano roll on The You Tube the solo sheets leave out a lot of interesting runs. It seems as if sometimes four hands are playing that piano roll. Watered down versions apart it pretty difficult and outside Previn I don't know many players who could play it as intended.
It don't mean a ting if it don't have dat swing
