Here's a piece of music that's very interesting. Especially when you consider that Lennie Tristano originally improvised it in 1940, then committed to paper as a composition in 1943, and it was published in 1944, about 10 years before the earliest recordings of Little Richard, Ray Charles, and of course, the "Killer", Jerry Lee. This is the earliest instance I've heard of anyone playing the time-honored, typical figures over a boogie woogie ostinato that became a major part of the 1950s "rock/r&b" piano styles of Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Ray Charles, etc., and by at least 10 years! Of course, some of these figures that Tristano improvised in 1940, and was published in 1944, are apparent in the music of, and have become standard cliches for pianists of later eras when playing in the style of 50's rock piano, like Keith Emerson. This recording is done by Sal Mosca in 1991, whose technique at this time appears to have been somewhat impaired. Lennie played this much faster and of course, without the gliches in tempo. : http://www.salmosca.com/salripped.htm (5th column, "Chromatic Boogie". I have the original sheet music for this and will post it if anyone's interested.

Definitely interested in the sheet music. Mosca's fingers are showing their age in that recording, though.

I loved your "Chromatic Boogie". I could never play it though. But it was great to listen to. Thanks for sharing it. Very nice! I'd love to have the sheet music also. I play mostly classical things, but I'm trying to move out a bit from that, and this seems like a lot of fun.
