Hello: In the interest of not wasting money..I'm looking for suggestions of good Jazz piano..mostly solo.. but it can have a trio included..someone mentioned a DVD by Bill Evans
rather than spend money on a DVD then find out it wasn't that good..so all suggestions are welcomed

Thanks Bob Newbie

Do you want a DVD because you are interested in watching the performance, or are you more concerned with the audio quality?
You can get 5.1 surround sound on a DVD, but unless you have the equipment to faithfully reproduce the sound, there are many outstanding reference quality CDs that can be obtained instead.

I recently received a DVD of Oscar Peterson performing "A Night in Vienna." Good video and audio. However, I should qualify that the DVD's audio was heard through my television speakers, in 2 channel, and I didn't get the full benefit of the surround sound. Nevertheless, the DVD was entertaining.

CDs - Almost anything by Oscar Peterson - my personal favorite is "West Side Story."

Gene Harris - "The Best of the Concord Years."

Of course, Bill Evans - all mentioned are not pure solo - there is a bass and drums player, too.

Hello: thanks for the responses..I like watching the performances..maybe a good shot of the hand movements..which is hard to see if they don't focus on the hands too much..I've learned a bit by watching instructional jazz videos..so i was hoping that even some performance videos might help as well.. I've played Jazz guitar for 40yrs
picked up jazz riffs by watching performance video of Joe Pass..and Martin Taylor..I was hoping to do the same with piano... many thanks
