Ok so have you ever wondered what a PIANOWORLD COMPOSITION would sound like? We have so many talented composers in this forum so why don’t we use them, here’s how it’ll go. Below I have attached a melody I have written, this is my contribution to the composition, YOU can add the bass, melody, bridge, ect… to this piece, whatever you feel comfortable doing, once you have done attach it to this thread and I can write out the piece in sibelius. This is EVERYONES composition so please contribute as much as possible! Here is the MIDI file http://www.box.net/shared/i5rofgv0g0 By no means do you have to stick to this melody, this is only my contribution to the pianoworld piece Here is the Sheet Music http://www.box.net/shared/j2yg1bbc4g I have not paid any attention to the key signature or time signature, this is only to show you the notes played in the MIDI file Who knows, once we're finished Frank might use it as the Pianoworld Theme

Hi sp3929,
If part of this process means honing this melody that would be my first step. For me the written out ornamentation is the weakest aspect of this melody. I have many suggestions for making this melody stronger so let me just make them.
First off the initial G sounds to me more like a pickup note. This would change the time signature to 3/4. The G would be before the bar. Then take out the ornament and replace with a half note of D. Then you have a choice change the interval (a minor 7th would work nice) or move to another note (Bb to G or Ab would also work nice). That would make this melody about the jump so repeat jumps and maybe invert them to bring the melody down. All of this would outline your basic harmonic changes with a common feature (the large jump). This common feature would be followed by stepwise motion (the motion from Eb to C to D is basically an embellished descending half step).
Melodic strength is usually derived from creative use of a small number of ideas, not just a collection of interesting ideas. After 3 or 4 reps of this first part then you could do something similar with a contrasting idea or a new twist on this intial idea (invert the rhythm?). One other thing to keep in mind is you have to establish a strong rhythmic idea before breaking it becomes effective.
Just a few thoughts to move this idea along.

Believe me when i say i most cirtantly did not think that my idea for the melody was anywhere perfect, i mean you guys have probably been composing for years, whereas this is my firt try at any aspect of a composition. If you have any thought on how to improve the melody, include a bass line, bridge, ect. please write it up!
I will change my idea for the melody with the ideas givin by Steve, but this isn't just my composition, ITS YOURS

Hi zp3929,
No worries. I was trying to be gentle, but I don't always succeed. I came up with a few ideas last night which could also use some fine tuning, but I'm not sure how to post them. I've seen music embedded into messages, is that with JPEGs? I can print to a PDF, can I embed a PDF into a message here? If not how does one convert a PDF to a JPEG?

Hi steve, i was using a program called sibelius where you can not convert the sheet music into a pdf so what i did was downloaded this http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator which prints the page to pdf, its a fake printer, then you can use something like www.box.net to upload the pdf i'm not sure how to embed a pdf into a post though unfortunatlly.
