Dear Composers, This I posted in non-classical and thought... you composers are really creative... so... maybe this is the forum to ask too. Have you ever dreamed of yourself at the piano composing or performing, etc? For fun I want to dream of myself at the piano performing. That I remember I never have. I did wake up once and I was arranging the left hand for my improv of God Bless America at the piano. I was excited but this is my only dream that I remember in 45 years at the piano. Input? Yes! very often I do that and some how, I can compose better in my dreams (sounds weird but its true!). When I wake up, some the ideas I realise are really good!

Thank you Clockwiser for your imput... I had a professor tell me all the reasons why we indeed work out music in our sleep. Too complicated for me to remember. I will see if I still have his comments and post if I do. Sandy B

Dear Clockwiser and other composers, Research Digest Blog, Friday, June 09,2006. COMPOSE NEW MUSIC? In Your Dreams...by Prof. Peiro Salzarulo at the Unv. of Florence. This begins: I quote, "The source of professional musicians' creativity could lie in their dreams report Piero Salzarulo and colleagues at the Unversity of Florence. Appx 28 percent of the time , the music that is featured in the musicians' dream was an original. "The occurrence of unknown musical pieces shows that new musical productions could be created in dreams", the researchers said. The music related dream is not linked with the musical activity on the previous day. The frequency of musical dreams is associated with the age at which the musician began their musical instrution." "This finding is in agreement with the notion that the early years of childhood are crucial for establishing the lifelong development of musical skills," the researchers said. End of excerpts...
