Wengr,
I'm no expert (hopefully one will weigh in), but here's a start, based solely on what I've read.
The PG-175 is a 5'9" Professional Artist Series piano, made in Korea. Larry Fine's 2007-8 supplement (I think unchanged in the latest supplement) places this piano in Tier 3B, on a rough par with Steinway's Essex line, Knabe (one of Samick's premier lines), Kawai's GE and GM series grands and Yamaha's GB and GC series grands, etc. Larry Fine opines that these are good quality pianos, but with quality control that somewhat trails that of the Japanese standard-bearers, Kawai and Yamaha.
Good luck!

Thanks DD for the reply. It's not the PG I'm considering but the lesser G-175. I suspect they are quite different. I really need to get that book. thanks, greg

Sorry about that Greg. I'm clueless on that model. It is not listed on YC's website as a current model (which are the only models listed in Fine's book as well). The only accoustic models mentioned are the Platinum line (models start with "YP"), the Professional Artist Series ("PG") and the Bergmann line ("BTG"). No mention of models beginning with a "G".

If you have a specific piano in mind, I'd have a tech look at it. Each piano is different.

thanks for the replies. my main concern is that I have read that the G-175 has a laminated soundboard. as a guitar person this seems very undesireable. any input about lam. soundbords?

Thanks for the post, I'm also considering this paino, I was told by the dealer. I was told I can have it for $8500, if you feel this is a good price, please let me know, the dealer said it roughly 10% above cost, frankly I beleive the guy, he's very nice.

[/b] I believe the YC G175 has a solid spruce soundboard. Samick the competitive South Korean manufacture back than were known for their laminate soundboards. I've been known to eat crow every now and than. The G175 are older Young Chang grands/ later eighties to the mid nineties. Decent piano if newer and of low milage though $8500 for a preowned one is too much. The better Chinese manufactures are at the same pricepoint but superior and brand new to boot.
