Inspired to compose by a kaleidoscope of colors and designs?

After reading a post today in our classical forum about color this thought came to me, for our composer forum. What if you looked into a kaleidoscope, many designs and colors changing before your eyes? While you are viewing this marvel, could you relax and ask your brain to put these colors and designs to music for your own composition? Would your brain respond to your request? Remember the dancing fountains with various colors fading in and out with a music backgound? Usually New Age compositions if I recall correctly. Sandy B

Absinthe, religous euphoria, love, LDS, opium, poetry, pure ability, hard work, insanity, and greed are all well know musical inspirations and motivations.. So why not a "kaleidoscope". Seems kinda safe. Was it lucy in the skies that had kaleidoscope eyes? -gaff

We seem to be different in this area of inspiration. Whatever works for you. Listening to good music inspires me, classical mostly, Beethoven especially. I use any and all methods too. If I imagine myself walking on a beach with all the sounds, the ship in the distance ,the birds flying over my head, on and on, this really inspires me. I paint a canvas of emotions on the keys of the piano. Sandy B

Sandra,
People have to be driven, to write.
People may be inspired or energized by any number of things. That inspiration may result quickly in some creative noodling, but actually finishing an original work, i.e., composing, is something else entirely.
We start things - or noodle things - for ourselves; we finish them for others. And we have to be driven, to do that.
