Here is the file that I couldn't find out how to get on here. You learn something new every day, right? This is it, it's not yet finished, and I am working out the last section. I am open to criticism, and I really want to know what other people think about it (it's ran through my head so many times I don't know what to think anymore)! One note: measure 17 (they're not marked) is a dotted eighth, followed by a sixteenth, like it is in the 18th measure. Thank you, and I am nervously awaiting your feedback. Haha. http://www.4shared.com/file/69885257/9674237/20081030070537081.html

WTF? I'm the only one to reply to my own posting? Haha. I just forgot to write that I didn't put any pedeling on the compostion.....there is def. ped. throughout. You'll know when to ped. and release, I don't think I have to worry about that too much, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

Hey, I accidentally posted my own link in this thread but since I've already posted I'll give a reply to yours!
I think it's pretty solid and cohesive! HOwever I assumed you kept the F minor key signature all the way through and I couldn't really make out the dashed thing at the end.
On a personal note...maybe you're really into this late-classical/ early-romantic aesthetic and you do a convincing job with it, but I think there are more interesting aesthetics to use.
But I don't really know anything about composing!

I'll take that as a complement, thanks! Yeah I know it is very "early romantic", and for good reason; I've been playing a helluva lot of Chopin, and I guess it came out in this composition.
I thought the melody was too boring and repetetive, hence the little ornamnents that do seem to help a bit, and the second time through should be a little more dramatic, almost violent....maybe thats not right, but you get the picture. Yes, it does stay f min throughout, I just got tired of writing key signatures, this being my second draft.
That thing you speak of at the "end" is....damn i don't know what it's called. (I don't really know anything about composing either,) but it's when you play a chord, but you break it up. Play all the notes in the chord within the time, but not all at the same time. Can anyone refresh my memory on what thats called? It goes blliiinng.

But I like box.net best because you can see a preview rather than download the whole thing, and get some idea of whether you're going to have anything to say. But yes, you do have to be patient on this forum. Sometimes it might only get one post per day. Are we all busy writing music?

Oh that's ok, no big deal. I'm going to look into that. I'm in no real hurry, and I know how hard it is to find time, believe me. As far as the music goes, I really do prefer to write by hand instead of using a program. I don't know why, but I do. But that doesn't mean I can't record the stuff and post that, thanks.

BBaker,
Morodiene is right, record it and post a link to the audio file (MP3) please. If you can play the piece you can download Audacity (freeware) and record it into your computer. That assumes you have a computer microphone and a piano.
As for your piece I haven't read it. However a quick perusal suggests that you would benefit from reading Gardner Read's Music Notation. This is a book every composer, who plans for others to read their work, should be familiar with. What stood out for me was the half notes the second beat. Typically these are written as a quarter tied to another quarter in 4/4 because the third beat is a strong beat.

Yeah I see what you're saying. It's been awhile since i've written music; since high school, so about 7 years or so. And even then I wasn't great at it. Thanks for your advise ya'll.
