I am a music teacher using Finale to score an original composition for someone. He has a hand-written composition, completely voiced. I am just entering it into Finale exactly as written. It is a long piece, and it has taken me more than a few hours to complete. I have no idea how much $ to ask. Is there an industry standard, such as cost per page, per measure, per note?

Hi Keyboarder, Good question. I looked around for a copyist to transcribe some music for me. Most charge either by the hour or page. Definetly not by the note. I forget the price I was quoted but it might have been between $40-%60 per page. -------------------------------- Play New Age Piano http://www.quiescencemusic.com

I did what you're asking once for $10/page. I was reasonably proficient with the software and could do anywhere between 2-4 pages in an hour. (It wasn't a terribly complicated score.)

When I was in high school, I charged $10/page a couple times for this. But I was probably undercharging.

It also depends on what you're actually doing. I'd charge less for data-entry, simply putting a manuscript into a computer, and more for editing, which would involve a lot more decision-making regarding layout, correcting mistakes, adding fingerings, or clarifying the notation for ease of reading.
