Hi

Say you are using the VI7 of a key to modulate to that key (but in its original key it was I7). Would you embellish it as if to be in the key that it is modulating to, or in the key that it is originally in? Or could it be embellished as if to be in the Mixolydian of the original key (as in, using the flatted seventh degree instead of the normal leading tone of the original key). I'm talking about Common Practice harmony-era, is what I mean.

Either would be "correct" so it's a matter of style. Embelishments in the original key make a more abrupt moduluation. Embelishments in the coming key signal the listener that "something is about to happen." I generally do the second.

Huh, well I decided that using the key of the original WITH the flatted seventh to embellish the modulation chord sounds weird. I mean, what was I thinking? Using borrowed harmonies in the original key to embellish a modulation chord?
