This is my first post here....I have recorded my Composition Impromptu in G Sharp Minor (a single motif being carried on over the piece) played on Schimmel....Please have a listen here..

That's a nice dreamy piece. I liked the scale you used as it had a rootless ethereal quality. Was your intention to create a static impression? I ask because it didn't sound like there were any significant changes in harmony or texture. Was this piece improvised or did you write it? I'm guessing improvisation was part of your creative process to some degree. It was an enjoyable listen. I could imagine doing more with it, but that would mean extending the harmonic and textural reach. Thank you for posting.

Yes, the scale is not a regular(not a Melodic or harmonic or natural minor) but G Sharp Minor with a Augumented 4th, (Liszt Hung. Rhapsody 19th for E.g)
I am actually writing a grande Sonate with a main motif that began in that piece, but ur are right I improvised on the Piano but I also wrote down what ever thoughts came to me and I will release a bigger version of it once I complete it.

I agree with Steve's assessment - I enjoyed it, but it seemed rather static harmonically. Regarding your idea to expand it into a bigger piece, if you want to do that, I would try to work in some contrasting sections, either melodically or harmonically. As it is now it is nice, but there's only so much you can do with a single theme and harmonic structure before it becomes tiresome (though it has been successfully done, see Gorecki's third symphony and Ravel's Bolero - both wonderful pieces).

Schimmel 213C with 2 Omni Directional MICS, I am still trying to find a sweeter position for my Piano but this particular recording was done with MICs placed few feet above the hammer, I happen to have other Pieces I recorded that have more sweeter and resonant tone than this and I am still experimenting to find the best position for the MICS in my pursuit for finding that Sweet singing tone that comes out when I play that ...I dont think i will ever be satisfied....Do u have any suggestions how I can improve my recording?

You're right, I did ended up writing a contrasting section, I originally conceived this piece in D Minor, moves to key of G in the 2nd movement and back to D, I will post it here once I finish the recording my playing....Thanks

I'm still in the information gathering phase myself. There is a some common thread in all the kind folks who respond, and its looking like a lot of work! Here's the summary:

warm piano sound need room acoustics;

distinct piano notes requires close mic or a soundboard piezo mic;

the above need to be mixed together;

equalization;

digital editing: for background noise, removing artifacts etc.,

An economical way to go about recording is digitally direct to PC, but I need to determine how sonically attractive it really is. I've use Audacity to mix the digital recorded tracks together and so far its easy to do but not enough experience with the sound quality. Audacity is open software foundation license, so its free.

Thanks, I will take note of this. I have tried Audacity as well as Goldwave, I like them both
