I'd like some classical pieces that as a beginner I'll be able to understand and practice... Could you please recommend me a few?

Use advanced search in ABF for "beginner piece" in the subject for the past year and you will get lots of results.

Hi,
I am just a few months into playing - the simplest piece if have found (only yesterday) is Bach minuet in G major

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIKKDXCP2_M

It's beautiful, and (i am told) about a grade 2/3 ABRSM level.

I think this book might be useful:

Keys to Stylistic Mastery, Book 1
by Ingrid Jacobson Clarfield (Editor), Dennis Alexander (Editor)

http://www.amazon.com/Keys-Stylistic-Mastery-Book-Masterwork/dp/0739030272

Maybe for Grade 1 to 2 standard....

fe2008,

I'm not sure what series are readily available in Brazil.

There are a lot of series of classical pieces that go back to very beginning levels.

Keith Snell makes two series. Essential Piano Repertoire of the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries is a one volume per level series that starts with pieces that are very simple. His more complete series Piano Repertoire has three books per level - one for Baroque & Classical pieces, one for Romantic & 20th Century, and the last is Etudes. Both series start at preparatory and work up to level 10.

Another series that is very similar is Celebration: The Piano Odyssey.

You can also look for the Classics to Moderns series.

Different method books have their own series of repertoire as well.

The Helen Marlais Festival collection begins with simple pieces and the books have an accompanying CD.

Oscarsidebo,

Chopin didn't write any pieces for beginners.

This book
Chopin: An Introduction To His Piano Works

contains a selection of pieces by Chopin starting with some of his easier works.

Alternately, these are his works that are included in the Keith Snell series. They don't start appearing until Level 5 (the series ranges from Preparatory to 10). This should give you an idea of the relative difficulties of this work.

Level 5
FREDERIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)
Mazurka in F, Op. 68, No. 3
Prelude in A, Op. 28, No. 7

Level 6
FREDERIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)
Waltz in A Minor, Op. Post.
Mazurka in A Minor, Op. 67 No. 4
Polonaise in G Minor, Op. Post.

Level 7
FREDERIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)
Prelude in C Minor, Op. 28, No. 20
Mazurka in G Minor, Op. 33, No. 1
Waltz in B Minor, Op. 69, No. 2
Nocturne in C Minor, Op. Post.

Level 8
FREDERIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)
Prelude in E Minor
Prelude in B minor
Waltz in Ab, Op. 69, No. 1

Level 9
FREDERIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)
Waltz in Db
Nocturne in Cb Minor
Polonaise in A

Level 10
FREDERIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)
Nocturne in F Minor, Op. 55, No. 1
Waltz in E Minor
Fantasie-Impromptu, Op. 66

If you are familiar with the Alfred's series that is discussed in the threads on this forum, then consider that level 5 is where many of the "challenge" section pieces of Alfred's Book 3 are rated.

My two classical favorites for beginner skill development are Bach's Minuet in D and Clementi's Sonatina Op. 36 No. 1. The Bach is great for jumping the hands simultaneously without breaking rhythm, and the Clementi is excellent for working on runs with one hand while doing a rhythmic pattern with the other. Both pieces are approachable in the first year. I have my early versions on my blog, or both can be easily found on YouTube.

I have used "My first book of Classical Music" by Bergerac (and yes, it has a Chopin piece (Nocturne)as well). Though it is geared for children, I found it very helpful to supplement the Alfred Piano courses that I am using currently....

Take a look at THIS WEBSITE, scroll down to "The Harebell" by William Smallwood. There's also some good beginner pieces at gmajormusictheory .

Crusadar.

Do you have other free music sites that you might share?

I've used Gilbert DeBenedetti's website for my piano students many times. He is a nifty composer, too as well, a like his music for children and he has shared lots of pieces at every level for free.

More people should know about and use free music sites!

There are a lot of classical pieces in public domain.

I don't have my site list handy, sorry, otherwise I'd share.

Betty

I like this site, pieces selectable by difficulty, you can listen to them online to see what it sounds like before you buy:
