Hi All,
This is probably a stupid question - but I am only a couple of months into my novitiate...

Sometimes when i am listening to a piece on youtube, the notes played do not match what i get from my piano (Clarinova 330). My piano seems to be off by a small amount. I don't mean that i play so badly is sounds bad (which it does), but note for note, it is as if the piano's are tuned differently. Is this to do with 'concert pitch', or are pianos tuned differently in general?

Thanks for reading.

Recording acoustic pianos is a very difficult thing to do. Most of them without really expensive equipment sound like honkeytonk pianos, even if it is a high quality and in-tune instrument. Perhaps that is what you are hearing? Youtube isn't the highest quality in playback, either, since it must be condensed enough so it doesn't hog up bandwidth.

I think it is more than that -- overall the sound quality is excellent - it's just on some recording that i have heard it is slightly off key - maybe by only a half-step. It is possible to change all the notes gradually but the manual for the piano tells me that the piano is tuned to 440 on A, which i believe is concer t pitch. It's no real problem, i would just curious. Thanks for responging.

Unless you're listening to recordings made on a CLP-330 (the same as yours). I would wager that it's the piano in the recording that sounds "off" and not yours. The sound being put out by acoustic pianos varies immensely on an instrument to instrument basis, even if they're the same brand and model. For instance, my 50yr old acoustic spinet sounds way off, lol. Basically pianos don't all sound alike, especially acoustics. A lot of YouTube recordings (if you're listening to amateur and not concert) will be way out of tune or unregulated, and even if they were all pianos sound different. If you're listening to digital piano recordings it varies on a model to model basis. The only time there could possibly be any cause for concern is if you are listening to a recording of another CLP-330, even then you'd have to consider the possibility of audio degradation on YouTube.
