Wondering if anyone would be interested in a study group here on the AB forum using "How to Play from a Fake Book" by Michael Esterowitz....

Since there's no CD with the book, it'd be great to hear people play some of the book's material on a thread here...

Interested?

THanks,
Angelo

I always say these study groups are a good idea, then fail to contribute my fair share. That would probably happen with this one too, but I still think it's a good idea. I would definitely read and try peoples' suggestions and listen to their recordings. Fake book and improv play are areas I've been neglecting and want to start working on.

I would be interested. I have the book on my shelf and have been waiting to start it. It is something I would really like to be able to do. I was going to wait until I finished Alfreds AIO book 2 that I am just about to start. But if I can get some help from the great people here I am ready to jump in.

Is this a study group for the book Learning to Play from a Fakebook or is it a study for those that are learning to play from one??? I think it's for the book Learning to Play from a Fakebook, right?

Crystalncrew:
I was thinking of opening up a study group of a group of people using the book "How to Play From a Fakebook" by Michael Esterowitz.

Salzdt:
Here is the book: http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_detail.html?item=1301889&cart=34457635962028887
I don't think you need a fakebook though at this point other than the Esterowitz book, because he has examples and stuff to work on in that book.

wj3:
I'm not even done Alfred's All in One Book 1 yet!

knotty:
If you go to the book in the link below, it'll tell you the tunes in the book. My concern is that it would be great to hear AB's play the examples in the book, rather than the songs, though, because the examples are what look intimidating. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_detail.html?item=1301889&cart=34457635962028887

Count me in. Will be unable to contribute any music files as my computer is not set up for that, but, yes would love to interact with the group on this subject.

I've ordered the book and it should be in next week.

I think it's a great idea, it's just that I really need to start sightreading a little more right now since I neglected this area too much recently.

Angelo,
I'll order the book, and let you know when I receive it. I have a pretty good background in music theory, scales, chords, and chord progression. Hopefully, this will help learning to improvise using the Fake Book.
