Hi all,

I have a mid-90's Yamaha clavinova pf100, that has performed flawlessly for the last 15 years. However during the last few months, a small number of keys have become "hot" and the dynamics produced with the same playing pressure are so much louder than they should be. Very annoying to say the least. Does anyone know if this can be addressed/adjusted  or have any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance,
~ Bruce

If dirt or lubrication works it's way between the key lever and the Pressure (velocity) sensors underneath, the volume dynamics can change. The glob of "stuff" transmits the key action faster/harder to the sensor so that the processor sees an instruction for a louder volume.

Unscrew all the retaining screws to remove the shell and expose the keybed and sensors. If you find dirt or lube on the offending parts just clean it out.

Same thing happened to me on a different Digital, cleaning fixed it.

Then again, after 15 years, maybe you just wore-out those sensors!

Good Luck

This may have been an isolated incident, but recently I found a paperclip underneath the keys of a keyboard with the same symptoms as yours. They metal was contacting the circuit board and bypassing the sensor, causing those notes to play at maximum loudness. If you are mechanically inclined, take a look inside. Unplug the unit first. Unplug the unit first. If you do not feel comfortable, a Yamaha servicing dealer or tech can investigate for you.
