if you had some dream piece you wanted to achieve, wouldn't it be easier to practice it ( if your level is sufficient otherwise you have to start by easier pieces) and memorise it rather than learning how to sight read then sight reading it. Especially for hard dream piece, i can't imagine how you could sight read fantaisie impromptu for example ( usual dream piece for us, poor beginners ^^)

I agree, the 'dream piece' route won't get you far before turning into a nightmare. Instead, there are books and books of good quality, well written music ideal for even the most beginner sight reader.

I have been using a piece of software on the iPhone called Mozart which I have found invaluable.

It registers your "High score" and is fun to use. I've only been using it for about 4 months and can notice a marked improvement.
