Hey guys,

I've seen the sheets for Pathétique mov. 2 i think they are challenging but not impossible. Certainly because of the slow speed in which it is played makes it possible for playing, but it'll be hard to keep the rythm straight on a very slow piece. Just asking if anyone of you have tried the piece and can maybe suggest if it's too hard and i'll have to wait for some time or am i able to play it.

Do you also have any suggestions to play after mr. Alfred :P?

- Piano Sonatas by Beethoven?
- Anything else by Beethoven?
- Grieg? Maybe some lyric pieces?
- Debussy? Arabesque 1 or maybe Réverie? Or something else?
- Or if Rachmaninoff has made easy pieces what are they :P?
- Gymnopedies?
- Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Wimbwicket

Start with Moonlight Sonata, movement 1. It'll practice your rhythm and should be much easier to learn than a piece with both hands moving often.

Just a suggestion.

If you want to start with beethoven sonatas , op 49 nad op 79 is consider easiest,or maybe op 2,1

John Frank gave a list of a few options for After Alfred's in the Alfred 3 Thread.

If you are interested in classical music, there are plenty of repertoire series books that you can move into.

I am playing through the Keith Snell Repertoire series and am currently in level 4. Here is an online book that gives the pieces at each level of the Keith Snell books:

Keith Snell Index

This series goes from preperatory through level 10. The hard part with switching to a repertoire series is knowing where to start. Fortunately, many of the pieces in the Challenge section of Alfred's Book 3 are in level 5 of Keith Snell's books. So if you need a bit more to work on at about the same level, you can pick up with level 5 of this series. If you want to move up another level, start at level 6.

FWIW, pieces by Rachmaninoff are not in any of the 11 levels of the Keith Snell series.

Rich

Yes!
And all the Gnossiennes!

Ingrid (easier then Moonlight in my opinion)

I'd vote the Moonlight first movement over the Pathetique second. I've worked on the Patheqtique a lot over the years (still seriously suck at it) and the 2nd movement is handleable, but it's got a lot more going on (at least to me) than the Moonlight first movement. There's the whole issue of bringing out the melody in the middle of all those notes. It's a good learning tool though.

A couple of other easier options from the Beethoven Sonatas:

Op. 14 No. 1 Allegretto part (I love this)
Op. 14 No. 2 Andante part (gets tough near the end, but the first part is very cute)
Op. 49 No. 2 Tempo di Menuetto portion (tougher, but nice)

I really like the Gnossiennes from Satie as mentioned.

Schumann Opus 15. has lots of quite doable pieces and are shorter in length to allow some progress without getting overwhelmed (they suit my pathetic attention span.)
