Hello every one. 1st-ly to just as a waiver, I'm not a player (I wish I was) and my piano is a little rough and ready, a 1920-30's vintage Challen baby grand. It has been restrung at some point, and had the action rebuilt also. It's for my daughter who's learning to play, and my wife who's reliving her childhood.
I've used an ETD to essentially audit it's state of tune, and it's around 20cents flat through the middle couple of octaves and gets flatter either end.
My question relates to the number of wire winds around the tuning pins, on a couple of strings the bottom of the last wind of the string is very close to the plate, has the string stretched too much, or is it possible keep going maybe riding up over the last wrap, or unwrap the string and cut it shorter and go again?
I realise this instrument will never need to be 'perfect', but would like it too be the best it can be. My profession is a building designer and CAD drafter, so by nature I'm obsessive compulsive, and quite handy. I've rebuilt the legs and removed the action and levelled the hammers on the hurburger brooks action. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thankyou Daniel McDonald Bunbury, Western Australia

Coils should not touch frame.
Number of coils on tuning pin min-3 max-4.
