For lovers of Hovhaness, Schubert, Liszt:

Next Thursday, April 16th, is the next concert in the NOVA Alexandria Guest Artist series: a program by world-renowned pianist Martin Berkofsky, esteemed for his Liszt repertoire and his interpretation of the music of his friend and mentor, the late Alan Hovhaness.
• The concert will take place at 7:30 pm in Tyler Recital Hall (next to Schlesinger Center) on the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College – NOVA – 3001 No. Beauregard St. Alexandria VA 22311. Paid parking is available by the Schlesinger Center.
• Featured works: “Dawn on the Mountain of Intitiation” – Op. 303 – Alan Hovhaness
• “Mt. Katahdin” Sonata for Piano – Op. 405 – Alan Hovhaness
• Two of Franz Schubert’s Impromptus
• “Legende: St. Francis de Paule marchant sur les flots” and “HungarianRhapsody No. 12” by Franz Liszt.
A reception will follow the concert.
Mr. Berkofsky has always insisted that that there be no admission fees set for his concerts, but donations for his Cristofori Foundation are welcome.
The Crisofori Foundation provides scholarships to promising young musicians, has helped establish the Hovhaness Research Center in Yerevan, Armenia, and makes major contributions to local organizations.
