The Carnaval is an extremely exhilarating piece to play. If one has already acquired a taste of it and has the technique required to play it with correct tempi, I can't imagine why one would not want to 'complete the journey'.

Carnaval is perhaps the most immediately rewarding of Schumann's larger scale piano compositions but I wouldn't quite agree that it's the most demanding. The Sonatas, C-Major Fantasy, Etudes Symphonique, Kreisleriana -- you can break your head and your hands on these!

Papillons, incidentally, is essentially a 'trial run' for the Carnaval, which may be why you find it uninteresting.

I know it was not ment for me, but I plan on doing the papilons first before I do the Carnaval. It seems to be a delightful piece with its own challenges.
