I came across this fan arrangement of a song and I'm trying to figure out how to play it with my hands that can barely reach an octave:

h--p://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pcfc2/score/myself.pdf
(If you're warned about missing fonts upon opening the file, don't worry, they're probably just the Japanese fonts used in the lyrics.)

Bar 53, namely beat 3 - is that supposed to be possible? What is the best way to rearrange it so I can reach without destroying the distribution of voices?

I love Sperion no Sora's arrangements but I frequently encounter similar problems with their work. I have the same problem with parts of Tsukiakari and Tabi no Tochuu:

h--p://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pcfc2/score/tsukiakari.pdf
h--p://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pcfc2/score/tabinotochuu.pdf

My tiny hands have left me in despair!

I think it's intended that you play the notes with stems pointing down(in the treble clef) with the LH along with the bass part.

You have to make some choices here, because unless you have ginormous hands, you will have to roll things. I would plat the C-E and A with the RH, while the LH plays the low A and catches the A and octave higher on the "and" of beat 1. Beat 2 LH would play the stems down notes while the RH played the melody above. I assume you'll use pedal to then keep that low Bass A sounding. Beat 3, I'd play the low Bass G & catch that with the pedal, then quickly jump up to play the stems down notes simultaneously with the high RH A. That means the G in the bass will sound before the other notes. On the "and" of beat 3, I would again play that low G then the stems down A as quickly after that in the LH, and continue on in this same manner whenever you have large leaps like that.

Here's the part in question:

I couldn't possibly stretch the G#2-to-C#4, nor the E4-to-A5.
I can manage a ninth without problems, but not an eleventh!

It's not humanly possible for one person to play this as written - so you could re-voice the chord. Keep the decending bass line from A to G# and keep the melody line from E to A above the staff - but change the inner voices to make it playable - you might try
LH: G# E3 and RH: C#5 and A. That might work

I'd try to preserve the inner voice and melody lines, play the G sharp in the bass an octave higher. There's no indication of tempo, so I don't know how quick you'd have to get to the 'second' G sharp...it wouldn't likely work an octave high against the A in the inner voice...augmented unisons anyone? Diminished seconds? LOL

I dunno. I once saw a picture in Sports Illustrate of an NFL football player named Jevon Kearse. In his hand, he was holding a ruler, held between his left pinky and left thumb. He might could make the reach.

Can't say anything to how musical it would be, tho...

Maybe, remembering the apocryphal Mozart story, you're supposed to play the C sharp with your nose and the E with your tongue...

I remember reading that Rachmaninoff could reach the span of a thirteenth!

I don't know how to copy the graphic but have you missplaced the red dot. Isn't it C on the ledger line and C# on the keyboard?

How did you arrive at your color/note choices.

James

It's C# in both places.

Good to know there are solutions! I've been simply ignoring the "extra" voice(s) until now. I'll try to roll and see what happens!
