Hello,
I have stumbled upon a Young Chang PG-185 EP. The owner believes he purchased the piano new in 2000.
The serial number is G119363.
From the serial number can someone tell me:
1. What year this piano was manufactured? 2. Is this a Pramberger designed YC? 3. What is a ball park value of the piano. 4. Is the warranty transferable and if necessary, how do I make any claims for work as the second owner? Do I contact YC corporate or do I call a local authorized dealer?
The Piano is in ok, not great shape. It needs tuning. The pedals are a bit sticky with the left pedal having the most issue. The keys were a bit dirty and the action playing was a bit uneven. It was obvious the piano had not been played for some time.
I hope to schedule a piano technician to take a look at the piano this week but wanted to get opinions from the forum.
Thanks

Hi Tsandco - Pierce's Piano Atlas puts this serial number as 1998. Young Chang Grands that have serial numbers preceded by a "G" were manufactured in the Inchon, S. Korea factory. Overall, the Young Chang's PG 185 model grands were nice solid instruments. If you have a trusted technician, have him/her evaluate it for you to get some idea of its value. The current value will depend on many things. If you don't know anyone, go to the PTG website ( www.ptg.org) and look for a RPT in your area. As far as warranty goes - contact Young Chang directly. I'm sure they'll be most helpful. 866-798-6979 Good Luck!

M.O.P
Thanks for the information. I am scheduling a PTG tech to see the piano this week.
Anyone feel like throwing out a guess on its value based on my short description above?
thanks

I have a PG 185 that I've had for about 10 years that I use as my teaching instrument. It is a very musical and durable instrument. If the piano you are considering is in good condition, it will be a good one. Unfortunately, I can't help on the value because the market in Canada is very different from yours,(assuming you are in the U.S.) Good luck.

We had a G-208 advertized locally for $8700. It was a 1995. That is a 6' 10" model. That seemed pretty cheap.
