...and I did not screw up!!

It was at a luncheon, given to honor those who have volunteered at the school where I work. A simple lunch, soup, salad, bread, drinks and cookies, served as elegantly as possible in the school gym. So, the honorees were there for a free lunch. The entertainment was provided by the 120 kids with autism who attend the school, singing, Today is Monday! (Eric Carle, anyone?)

And I accompanied them on piano.
People said, "Oh, I didn't know you played!"
And I answered honestly, "I don't, that's the beauty of it!"

Although I guess I do now!
Imagine that! I'm sure you can, can't you, you lovely piano people!

Great fun indeed!
I'm alreading wondering what to do next.

Some of the long time staff have said it was the best school performance ever. (I think we say that about every school event, but it's good to keep up.)

And if I play at work, and they pay me to be at work...does that mean I play professionally?!

LMAO!

Congratulations, Malkin!

I guess the more you play in front of an audience the better and more comfortable you get at it.

On June 18, I will be playing for a college graduation ceremony with probably 2,000 or more people in attendance. I’m scared to death but looking forward to it as well. I’ll let you all know how it turns out.

Take care,

Rick

Only recently so, undone.
Normally, I play on my Clavy, wearing headphones!

Rehearsing the song with the kids, I messed up just about every time through (so did the kids and the rest of the staff), but somehow, it all turned out fine in the end. I don't know how...It's a mystery!

What are you going to play?

Hi Malkin,

I'll be performing "Wind beneath my wings". What I'm looking forward to the most is playing the 9 foot Yamaha concert grand piano. The ceremony will be held at a large church in the area. The church actually has a TV ministry and has all the modern sound and video equipment to do live broadcasts, plus the 9 foot concert grand. I hope I don’t mess up during the performance. grin

Take care,

Rick

Oh, wow, that's very cool!
I played on the decent school piano which is pretty much perpetually out of tune, because it gets moved around so much.

Our school formerly had an awful piano, but a Yamaha upright on big rollers was donated. smile

Wind Beneath My Wings is a beautiful choice for graduation.

Congratulations, Malkin! Playing for others is a huge rite of passage indeed, and yours is especially impressive given the size of the audience. Glad to hear it went so well!

And Rickster, we'll be wanting a full report on how your graduation performance goes. 1200 peoples! Yikes!!

Congratulations, Malkin! And yes, you definitely do play piano!! smile smile What an accomplishment. The first time is the hardest... I hope you'll have other opportunities too!

Rick, that's quite a gig you've got lined up there! You'll do great, and playing on that piano will be amazing. Can't wait to cheer your success!

Best,

Kim

Wow. You guys are awsome. Congratulations. You are an inspiration to those of us whose fingers turn to jelly if they think anyone can hear them play. Keep it up. Gaby tu
