I tuned a 1952 Yamaha P-2 yesterday. When I got home, I realized I had forgotten to measure the piano's height. As I was sitting there tuning, the piano seemed a bit shorter than the modern P-22. Is the P-2 the same thing, or did it evolve into the P-22...or are they totally different?

Now that I think of it, maybe the reason it seemed shorter was because the top lid folded back instead of lifting up.

On another note...this piano had the typical metal action rails. Who was the first manufacturer to use these, and when?

Back then, they were the P202 I believe, and then they progressed into the P22. They are all around the same height. 44"-45" or so.

The P2 model Yamaha was a kind of a stretched version of the M1 model. The P2 was 45" tall. The P2 series was discontinued in 1987. It is not really related to the P202 and the current P22. These are different scales, different cabinet styles, and came from different factories.
