Authentic Ragtime Co. has composed a completed version of a Joplin composition only known from a brief fragment. http://authenticragtime.com/Documents/Unknown%20Joplin%20Tune.mp3

I have to admit something; the first time I heard this, I thought that the score had been discovered. They sure had me fooled! I guess I want to believe that more Joplin material will surface so badly that I am easily duped in this regard. If the above link doesn't work, go to http://authenticragtime.com/Catalogue.aspx and scroll down to ""Unknown Joplin Tune" (19??) Scott Joplin?"

the music is interesting but not excellent ... This fragment was transcribed from a photograph of Scott Joplin's piano, which happened to have a page of manuscript on it. Someone happened to notice the notes were readable and in that way a fragment of this music was recovered. I think the composition is pretty good personally but that's just my opinion.

A little sedate for my taste, but still very nice. Thank you for posting!

Next up: A Guest of Honor (we can dream, can't we?) The legend of how that was lost is that Joplin was unable to pay the boarding house bill for his troupe because the receipts had been stolen, so the hotel seized his belongings as payment, which included the score of the opera. If this story is true unfortunately I believe the fate of the opera is that it is lost forever.
