Hi. I have bought many of the Jamie Abersold play along CD's and I want to just extract the left channel which has the bass and drums without the piano that is on the right channel. But when I run these in iTunes and pan left and right channels on the mixer, I still get the piano track bleeding into the left track. Is there a way to record just the left bass/drum track separately and save it as an MP3 and export it to iTunes or GarageBand so I can play the piano part live in real time along with the bass/drum track. I tried to do this in SoundStudio and all it did was crash each time I tried to just export the left channel/

Also, is there a way to have 2 left tracks panned on separate tracks so the bass and drums plays left and right so it's not just heard in the left ear and will sound mixed in left and right ear. Any help is appreciated/

I wonder if Audacity would let you do what you want to do?
Do you have the latest version of Sound Studio? I thought I read that older versions of Sound Studio export as AIFFs to iTunes old discussion gb vs soundstudio for ripping LPs

Audacity does do that but you have to re-encode each file, which is painful.
You need to do split to stereo track.
Then erase one channel
Then copy paste one channel to the blank one
Then "Make stereo track".
It's an ok solution.

I use Transcribe!, which does it on the fly. One channel in 2 ears.
It also slows down
And transposes.

The other way is to use a good old Y cable.

OK, because I was reading another discussion, Sound Studio does not have that "mono/karaoke" tool for taking out vocals, for example. But there are tips on using the graphic equalizer freeverse forum on using sound studio 3

I wanted to thank all you guys for responding to my request on how I could separate some of my J Aebersold tracks so I could play them in a jazz trio setting. I do have Audacity and an older version of Sound Studio and I can going to try some of the techniques you recommended and will post my results when I can. I also have a MacBook and the latest version of GarageBand which might offer some options as well.
