I'm looking at a Baldwin serial #329078. It looks exactly like http://www.classicpiano.com/PICTURES/Bald403983/Bald243.htmlSame height, rounded rather than scooped sides, same pedals and knobs. HOWEVER it does not have a Hamilton plaque to the right. Are all 243s Hamiltons? And what is the age of this piano. Seller does not know (belonged to her in-laws) and Gibson customer rep said 1943 or 1996 but did not sound sure. Finally, if the condition checks out, is $1000 an okay price? This is a piano for my 5 year old daughter. Thanks!

The two that I have don't have a Hamilton plaque to the right. (For one of them, there's nothing because it was either removed or covered up.) For the other (and the first would be this way if it had it on there) the Hamilton name is in the center over the fallboard. Does the piano look anything like that? (Chances are that if its serial number is as high as you say, it will say Baldwin in the center.)

Thanks so much for the replies and the welcome. 88key_pianoplayer: Yes, it looks exactly like that.
I'm double-checking with the seller right now on whether it says Baldwin or Hamilton above the fallboard but as she told me earlier that nothing said Hamilton anywhere, I'm assuming it says Baldwin. Will get back to you on that. Very curious...
Assuming nothing's fishy about this piano, how's the price?

Hello 88knees....Ser.# dates this Piano at 1978,Opening the top lid and looking at the "Plate" should help in identifying the manufacturer to be safe. This is a popular piano used in music institutions that have lots of use. standard advise is have someone else (piano wise) look at it also....P.S. I own one & dont forget about service! ....Greg

That looks like a model from 1996 to me based on the research I've done on the Baldwin Hamiltons. The Hamiltons that I found from this time period did not have Hamilton on the fallboard but were indeed Hamilton models. The price seems to be right in line with the prices I saw for similar pianos on craigslist from private sellers. Sounds like a good deal but definitely have a piano technician check it out before you purchase it.

Okay, heard back from the seller. Both the plate and fallboard say Baldwin.
I'm hoping it is indeed a 96 and a good deal. Now to find a technician! I'm assuming if I go with one in the area from PTG I'm okay?

My 243 is the practice room version (older)and I meant to suggest that maybe asking your daughters teacher/friends to check the Piano out. Tuning & Servicing will help. Piano's are cool!
