The first part of my search was preparing for the search. The post is at Part One

After preparation my target was:
- 5'-8” to 6'-2” grand piano; wife initially insisted on mahogany finish but eventually was open to black polished
- Larry Fine Group 3A Pianos; focused on Yamaha, Kawai and Boston ; Also rebuilt Knabes/Chickerings; Some interest in used piano but not that much.

Dealers
- Started with initial list of dealers; Expanded list as more were discovered during the search
- Emailed dealers with what I was looking for; Many promptly emailed back – most wanted to call and talk;
- Take the time to talk (phone or email) to the dealer/sales person so they understand your needs; don't be surprised if by talking to them you opinions are clarified and other options become possible. They do want to sell you a piano but are experienced but most want to fit the customer to the right piano.
- All dealers were terrific; No horror stories;
- Dealers were knowledgeable and helpful; Sales people were friendly and helpful. Very worthwhile talking to sales people to understand their brands and competitors;
- Some stores had better prep'ed pianos; But when I narrowed down my search to three pianos, after speaking the dealers, all volunteered to tune them up so they played optimally.

I'm in the NYC metro area. If anyone wants recommendations, please drop me a private email with what you are looking for. If I can help, glad to recommend folks -- all good and I wish I could have purchased a piano from all of them.
