I have an idea that we could make a forum that is strictly for harmonic analysis. Since the pianoforums user pianovirus brought up a discussion about analyzing a Mozart piece, that gave me the idea that we could do that and I would ask the moderators or the administrator to create another forum strictly for that.

Do you like this idea, or does it seem ridiculous?

I like the idea. I have been lurking as far as harmony analysis is concerned but the recent discussion has been wonderfully enlightening to read.

Maybe not strictly harmonic analysis but just educational musical analysis as a whole (to include e.g. contrapuntal writing, structural analysis)? Just a thought.

I like to read (and sometimes contribute to) discussions of this nature, and am always happy to see more. However, I don't think we really need a new forum for it. This composers' forum is hardly inundated with traffic and I think it's more than adequate to cope with the probable volume of contributions. Just start a topic and see what happens smile. Or if you want to talk about harmonic progressions which are more jazz-oriented, use the non-classical forum, which also is not overwhelmed by traffic.
Just my tuppence worth smile

A similar split was made back in the Usenet News Groups days. It wasn't worth the effort in my opinion. As noted above, this is not a crowded forum.

I was not a memember during the USENET days, but I agree that this is not a very busy forum. As such, I would not suggest that the effort to create a branch worth all of the work.
