Hi Everyone,

Just a little update, I've finally finished with my Alfred's AIO, level 1 book as of today, and plans on doing a little reviewing and brushing up on some rough pieces before moving on to book 2.

I've enjoyed, appreciated and thank you all for sharing your expertise, companionships and supports, and am looking forward to a continual learning relationship with you all in the near future.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing you all in book 2 thread.

Warm Regards,

Key Notes smile

I'd just like to mention my progress: I'm up to page 79 in the All-In-One book. That means I'm more than halfway through.... Yippeee!

I have found the CD to be helpful with regards to keeping correct tempo.

Here is my update,

Still on "Blow the man down", I kinda took a sidetrack and worked on some of the Hanon excercises in the book. I cant wait to conquer BTMD!!!!! I can play it hands seperately no problem!!! Its just getting those hand together and getting them to cooperate is the big hurdle!!!!. We will see how it goes tomorrow. Oh by the way, I think I have found a new teacher laugh . I meet her on the 22nd. Wish me luck!!! I am excited....

Angelojf... Keep up the good work. And im glad to hear that there are others out there that are around the same spot as me.

Sorry, I was up to p.78, not 79 as previously posted.

Now I'm up to p.82, though. However, I have by no means mastered those two pages regarding Hanon stuff. In fact, that one on p.79 is, well, one heck of a monster to me. I'm deciding to go forward though....

What do you all think about going forward despite not really mastering that Hanon stuff on pages 78 and 79 in the All in One book?

Thanks!

I agree to go on. Cause I know I have not mastered it yet. But I do go back to it and use it as part of my warm-up and I figure that way someday I will master it.

Thats my 2 cents. Im anxiouse to know what other think!!!

I never really mastered them either, but I moved on. I have other finger exercises and scales to do, and I intend to go back to them some day.

I'm still working on that darn Can-Can. I have all the notes, just can't keep the rythym constant, need to work on that some more and then get it up to speed. It does actually sound like Can-Can now. :-) I don't think I will ever be able to play it as fast as PianoNoob on Youtube. There is one more song (Marine's Hymn) left in this unit, and then on to the F Major Scale. I know this is still all "baby stuff", but I'm having such a good time with it!

You are progressing wonderfully angelojf. In regards to the Hanon exercises, I don't feel that we have to "master" them perfectly before moving on. I used them for the purpose of left and right hand cordinations and finger strenghthening exercises, especially the 4th and 5th fingers, and although I don't always do them perfectly well, I still enjoy working on them occsionally.

Hope this helps.

Not to worry KaylaX. You'll put those two hands together for BTMD soon enough. Try to focus on cordinating the notes in each measure very slowly at first.

Glad to hear that you may have found a new teacher, and hope that he/she will be a good match for you this time around.

Thank you, piano friends.

I'm going to pay minimum (and I mean minimum!) attention to the Hanon stuff. I'm in this for fun, and it didn't feel like fun doing that stuff. Maybe if I was more serious about the piano, it would be good. And I can always go back to Hanon if the mood strikes. A peek further into the book reveals more Hanon stuff; I'll try it but then move on!

Thanks again.

What a cool thread, by the way, so thanks again to Mark and all of you!

Don't forget, we can always use additional recordings for any and all Alfred pieces for the opening pages. Duplicates are welcome.

Thanks!

Just wanted to say hey to everyone... First post for me (and first attempt at piano). I'm on approx. page 52 of Alfreds (doing Hanon at the same time -- I'm finding it helps loosen me up, and I'm thinking it'll help strengthen those two weak fingers that always seem to present a problem).

I'm impressed with some of the videos y'all have posted. If I can make something that sounds like reasonable "music" in a year's time, I'll be more than satisfied.

I was wondering what everyone's using (for their practice) -- acoustic pianos, keyboards, 76 key, 88 key, etc... Didn't have the budget for a Grand or upright myself, however, found the Yamaha YPG 635 has a good piano feel (and a few built in electronic toys to keep it fun). I'll see how it goes for the first book, and then perhaps start scouting a teacher to fix the bad habits I'm sure I'm forming... Looking forward to learning how to coordinate left and right seamlessly... I know it'll come (as hopelessly uncoordinated as I am) -- just a matter of practice (I think)...

Hi, BKP100, and welcome! I started about a year ago, and am closing in on the end of ALfred's All-in-one. I've learned a lot from those that have gone before me in this thread. As for my practice, I started with a 61-key unweighted keyboard (yes, one of those toys) and now have a Casio AP-200. An acoustic doesn't fit my budget or living space either. I felt hopelessly uncoordinated when I started too - still do when I get stuck on a new piece - but listening to advice here and then practice-practice-practicing through it, I eventually get it. Keep at it - it IS just a matter of practice.

Hi BKP100,

I have an acoustic piano. I started out with an unweighted 61-key keyboard by Yamaha and quickly traded it in for an acoustic piano. I like the feel of my acoustic much better, I also like the sound allot better. I found my piano on craigs list and I was lucky enough to be able to trade straight across. They just wanted a good home for their piano but their kids still liked playing on the keyboard so I got a piano and they got a keyboard that didnt take up as much space and it had volume control and headphones. And I have been very happy, now comes the work. Just like mom3gram said, practice, practice, practice...And everyone here on the forum has invaluable info and encouragement.

Enjoy the journey...

KaylaX
