What's your favorite play along records? I own quite a few but the only ones worth mentioning is Wayne Shorter Aebersold with Ron Carter on bass, Nussbaum on bass and Aebersold Herbie Hancock, also with Ron Carter on bass. Then the Hal Leonard Chick Corea with Patitucci and Steve Davis.
Are the other Aebersold records featuring Ron Carter worth getting? And is there any other play along records that features established musicians?

The Volumes with bassist Tyron Wheeler are among the funnest for me to play along with, his time and intonation is good. He blends really well. Ron Carter is good but more difficult, he is edgier, more dissonant, more agressive, and sometimes his intonation suffers a little (check the Coltrane set). Ron Carter often times doesn't lay it down quite as clearly as Tyron Wheeler who is more conservative. "Paying Dues" is a good one with Ron Carter, Kenny Barron and Grady Tate. I avoid the other Aebersold bass players, especially anything with with Todd Coleman on it because I find him almost impossible to play with. Coleman has poor intonation and a weird stiff swing feel. And on top of all that he plays too many notes making it even more annoying. I would never hire Todd Coleman for any gig.

Yes I think Coleman plays on the Bill Evans playalong, and I agree, it's really uninspiring. I have the Miles Davis and Cole Porter play along aswell and they're both really boring aswell, not sure who plays on those.
