I'm looking at a used Yamaha CLP-860. I am currently living in Taiwan and this seems to be one of the better digitals i've played for a cheap price. In doing some research on this forum some people say that CLP-860 is very old? Is that the case? This instrument doesn't seem more than 2 years old and the touch is quite nice. Are the Asian models different from the US models? Anyone have any experience on this model? I can get it for about $600 US with warranty. As i am only in Taiwan for 1 year I do not want to buy new, I need something to get by with. Any thoughts?

check its history here:

it's from 1998, quite old. but for $600, it would be a good buy.

Thanks for the reply. I'm very surprised this is from 1998. It plays very nice, of course since it's only for practice at my house, I"m not overly concerned with "perfect" sound, but that's not bad either. I thought the action on digital pianos would have greatly improved from 10 years ago until now, but this action is really good. Why is that? anyone have any experience with this instrument?

old instruments have good action, i don't how they did that. maybe more expensive operating cost in the olden days?

but they certainly don't have the piano sound current keyboards have.

I still can't find a synth that has better synth keys than a 1992 SY85.

if it DOES sound good to you, go for it.
