It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
Hooray, Nodame Cantabile is in your list! The anime is what inspired me to take up piano (I've given up my dream of playing before). Actually, that's Nodame on my avatar
Working on: Schumann Album for the Young, Clementi Op 36 No. 1 (all movements), Various Bach, Czerny 599 + CASIO PX-720 and PX-730 +
How about this good musical thriller! Being a lover of classical music and Hitchcock-like films, La Tourneuse de Pages (The Page Turner) had particular appeal. FILM POSTER A film I enjoyed when first screened in 2006, and also several times later on DVD. A relatively simple script, convincingly presented by two excellent actresses, together with some fascinating detail which becomes more evident on the second and subsequent viewings. A cool, gripping, elegant, thriller as the trailer announced. TRAILER
Currently working on:- C Major scale (r/h only - starting with the pinkie finger)......
Dear Noah, We could have sworn you said the ark wasn't leaving till 5. Yours sincerely, The Unicorns

Hamilton the name escapes me
There were also a few good made for TV movies whose names I can't remember. One staring Sybill Shepherd who has an autistic son with a monster talant for classical piano.
August Rush - very good about a young boy with a big talant
Thanks for your suggestions. I am searching for these movies to rent from Blockbuster online.
It seems that they don't have Song without End, but I searched for Liszt and found Liszt's Rhapsody.
The Magic Bow isn't there either. Blockbuster doesn't have everything, I know.
I just ordered most of your list. Thanks again.
I have seen August Rush! It is a must-see. The boy actor did good job on that electronic guitar, even though he was probably just pretending, wasn't he?
Tweedpipe- Thanks! La Tourneuse de Pages (The Page Turner) reminds me of a Japanese detective TV series called Furuhata Ninjyaburo. I can just smell jealousy and desire for a murder. Can't wait to see it.
marimorimo- Nodame made me go back to Bach and learn piano in hard way. Good luck! I strongly recommend Bach Invention to begin with, if you haven't yet.
sonny_soniel- Darn it, Blockbuster doesn't have Piano no Mori either. Can't believe I haven't heard of it before. Thank you so much. My husband and I are getting tired of Blockbuster online anyway, especially about their changing rules without notice. I'll check with Netflix later. I know they have a better selection. The quality of the service was the reason we quit and went to Blockbusters 2 years ago. It seems to me that service everywhere is getting worse and worse.
landorrano- Thanks for recommending "This is Spinal Tap". We just ordered it.
Oooh -- one more great film I just thought of: Tom Dowd and the Language of Music. Fascinating documentary about the legendary recording engineer/producer for artists as diverse as Aretha, Otis Redding, Dizzy Gillespie, Susan Tedeschi, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tito Puente, The Allman Brothers Band and Dusty Springfield, just to name a few! Tom won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys in 2002. Sadly, he passed away later that same year. The DVD is available thru Netflix.
Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
I always liked Cornel Wilde as Chopin in A Song to Remember although the story is obviously incredibly romanticized. A similar type of movie about a different composer (Schumann) is Song of Love which includes a rather realistic descent into madness but is still, of course, terribly histrionic and historically inaccurate. Nevertheless, they're still both very entertaining!
Bach - WTC I in C major & C minor (BWV 846-847) Mozart - Sonata K 282 Chopin - Polonaises Op 26 Schumann - Fantasiestücke Op 12
And how about Close Encounters of the Third Kind? I love how it uses music as the means by which earthlings and aliens communicate. Talk about a universal language!!
Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
I recently saw "Impromptu" with Hugh Grant but stopped watching it part on the way through. It focused on his relationship with George Sand other than his music.
"Copying Beethoven" is not bad. But the girl Anna Holtz didn't exist in real life so why a film about her and Beethoven?
"The Piano Teacher" - This isn't an easy film to watch. You need a comedy or some alcohol after seeing this.
"Great Balls of Fire" I love bio-pics like this.
"Secret" starring Jay Chou is good.
It is quite difficult to get a region 2 DVD of this yet. My bootleg will do for now There is going to be a sequel.
