I just listend to it, it's very beautiful and heartfelt! I like the way you often use unaccompanied melody, only some chords to provide harmonic orientation. The ending in empty octave is also nice.

Since I'm currently busy learning harmony, may I ask (if you don't mind) what is the harmonic progression from about 0:32 to 0:41? I'm not at the piano, but there seems to be a maj7 chord, but I don't get to what it leads at about 0:41? Sorry if that's a silly detail question given that you just composed this nice movement! Anyway, thanks for sharing. smile

I will have a look at it soon, but you know, I never think about harmony and chords when I write. Instead, I try to get the correct tension that I search for on paper, and these kind of progressions are the results.

This movement is like an extended sigh, the sigh of love.
Very nice.

I seem to remember listening to this whole sonata and one in F minor by the same poster.
The A Flat was very melodic and beuatiful throughout and the F minor's first movement was full of drive.

It is such a shame that instrumental music that is so immediately accessible like this is looked down upon in 'serious music' circles.
At least, I get that distinct impression from forums with many posters that have a background in musical academia.

I agree. I noticed many times that musicians who studied music professional are not always able to hear music as it is, it always is compared with other music and given a label that it is appropriate or not to write in that style. Not everybody is like this of course...

If you ever get this down on paper, I would like to play it. I'm a big Chopin and Litz fan, and this is like the complex emotion of Litz, but the melodic simplicity of Chopin. Very pretty.
