Hey guys,

Since some time now i've been interested in not only the classical music but also the improvisation part of music like jazz, blues etc.. But i don't know where or how to learn it and neither does my teacher. She gives mainly classical music and if i bring sheets from einaudi or anything else i can play it (as long as it's not above my skill level).

So i have a few questions about this. I would really like to learn how to improvise rock ('n roll) / jazz (those are the ones i'm really interested in, but boogiewoogie / blues are nice too). Anything else would be nice to. But i don't know where to start learning improvising. What are the books you guys learned from and enjoyed. I don't care if it's mainly reading instead of playing because the holidays are coming up and i won't have a piano to play on for 2 whole weeks shocked . I'm on the skill level of playing nocturne in c-sharp minor & op. 69 no. 2 (Chopin).

Hi,

Improvising Blues Piano by Tim Richards is a must!

Also, there are several tutorials on YouTube which are worth watching.

Hi,

"Improvising Blues Piano" by Tim Richards is really a great book. Working through it on myself after two years of learning with a teacher (mostly the classical music).

"Art of Improvisation" by Bob Taylor is an excellent treatise on jazz improvisation!
