Hi there,
I have no experience with digital keyboards but a student has a CLP 820 to sell. I may get it for teaching harmony and counterpoint. What is a reasonable price? Any thoughts?

' This is quite an old (mid-90's I think) & basic model - therefore by todays standards, pretty out-dated.
I'm sure it'd be ok for the uses you describe, but not for performance etc.
If it's in good condition, it sould be no more than about UK £300 (about CAD $600 ?).

Thank you to you both for your advice. For my purposes, I think it will be fine; playing student writing of harmony and counterpoint and demonstration of chords, voice-leading and examples from the repertoire doesn't require amazing sophistication. Its condition is very good and it has never been used for any heavy playing. I`ll make a low offer.

If you open up any digital piano, all you'll see inside is a few computer chips and other electrical components, connected to the keyboard and speakers with wires, that is, a dp is essentially a computer with a keyboard and speakers. (This is the basic principle behind all those software pianos on a CD. You load them into your pc, connect the keyboard of your digital piano to the pc, and play a virtualized concert grand through your pc's speakers--you've essentially made your own dp this way.) And like used pc's they lose value fast. How much would a 10 yr. old pc be worth? Maybe $200 (US) at most.
