What are your top 10... best pianists, best piano composers, and most difficult piano composers (difficulty of their pieces)?

I'm new to the whole piano world so I don't know much, but from what I've read I'd say:

Best pianist: Liszt
Best piano composer: Chopin
Most difficult piano composer: Rachmaninoff

That's just the best because I'm too ignorant to know 10 :P

I didn't forget him... I just didn't include him. If piano concerti were included in my list, I would have.

What really intrigues me are all those stories about Liszt sight reading anything and all that, I think he's the best pianist, but reading around it seems his compositions lack melody or something

I never understood how people could say Liszt was there favorite pianist without even having listened to him play...

Bach - WTC I in C major & C minor (BWV 846-847)
Mozart - Sonata K 282
Chopin - Polonaises Op 26
Schumann - Fantasiestücke Op 12

I haven't said he's my favorite, more like he was the most talented and virtuoso of them, I'm not asking favorite pianists, more like the more capable ones.

I'm always amazed by that. Nobody alive has heard him play.

Just taking a short break from practicing, and it's always fun to read top 10 lists, so here goes:

Pianists I like:

Radu Lupu, Sviatoslav Richter, Grigory Sokolov, Alfred Brendel, Edwin Fischer, Glenn Gould, Helene Grimaud, Alicia de Larrocha, Leon Fleisher, Youri Egorov

Composers I like:

Schumann, Brahms, Prokofiev, Schubert, Haydn, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Albeniz, Scarlatti

Those are the pianists I listen to most often and the composers whose music I play most often.

"If we continually try to force a child to do what he is afraid to do, he will become more timid, and will use his brains and energy, not to explore the unknown, but to find ways to avoid the pressures we put on him." (John Holt)
