Apparently Bosendorfer has made reasonably-sized pianos in the past...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250462213413

I'm not going to be buying this one right now, though... chances are by the time you click on it, it has already exceeded my best-case scenario budget of around $1400 - preferably under $1000 (including moving, inspection, tuning, etc - and assuming I have a place to put it, which right now I wouldn't.)
Also, it has a birdcage action, lacks a sostenuto pedal, and is missing some keys.

But, at 147cm, it's a good step in the right direction compared to the 130cm that company offers today. Also, it looks wide enough (even with only having 85 keys) to have a reasonably large soundboard and long bass strings (it IS overstrung) - take a look at the width of the key block on the left - I've never seen new pianos made that large. frown

Just curious... what vertical pianos that are the same size, or preferably several cm larger, would be recommended on the forum now? I won't go into detail as to what I'm looking for, as I'm not really actively in the market for one right now (I have two Baldwin Hamiltons in the house at this time, which I paid a total of $349 for), but I am still keeping my eyes open just in case. However, would this Baldwin 243 be worth its $375 price tag, and worth getting rid of one of my other Hamiltons (even if I gave it away for free)? I can tell through the out-of-tuneness that I think I would like the tone if it was tuned, but am not sure about the cabinet having been mistreated. (I'm not really looking to buy one right now, but I also don't want to pass up a good deal if the circumstances are right.)

So who is currently making vertical pianos (with full 88-note keyboards and modern actions, of course) with full-width music desks like on the formerly American-made Baldwin 6000 vertical, and the same size as or larger than the Bosendorfer in the linked ebay auction? And if there's nothing available/recommended under 145cm, why not? My old 144cm upright had an almost good enough bass (having new strings helped, and IMO it was much better than the Steingraeber 138s I played), but there were enough things wrong with it that I decided it was prudent to get rid of it, and I got the 2 Hamiltons to hold me over till I can find something better.

Wow. The low price almost makes me suspicious. Looks great though.

It's an auction with about 5 days left on it. Even considering that it's an unrestored piano with a birdcage action, based on the name and fancy cabinet I would be surprised to see it end at under $20-30k.
