I stupidly and absentmindedly left a tiny child's necklace on the lid of my piano and of course it fell in when I opened the lid shortly thereafter. Sigh.

I've tried getting it out but the opening is way too narrow for this to work effectively. I'm thinking I'm going to have to either call a tech or have my husband remove the lid.

Please tell me there is a way the lid can be removed. If anyone wants to give instructions, I'm all ears.

Thank you!
(And no, I'll never put anything on the lid again!)

By "lid", you are of course referring to the ACTUAL lid, not the fall-board that covers the keys?

Both are removable...

Why can't you just hold the lid at a high angle and reach in w/a tool?

I'm not understanding what access you'd have with the lid off that you don't have now...

I think the OP means the fallboard.

Sparkler, I'm not sure about Petrof, but most of them you open about halfway, and it just slides out of its bracket when you get the angle right.

Some pianos have little screws in each side of the fallboard one must unscrew in order to un-lock the fallboard.

In some pianos like Steinway & Sons, you have to remove the end key blocks which hold the fallboard, they are screwed from under the keybed. But be carefull when lifting the fallboard to avoid the key blocks to fall to the floor. If possible have someone else to help you to hold them.

Thanks for the ideas.

Yes I meant the fallboard, sorry.

I have tried lifting it partially and using a tool to retrieve, but it hasn't worked so far. It's just hard to reach in at that angle and I can't quite pick up the item.

That's really good to know that it might slide out at an angle. I'll have my husband look for that angle. smile

Thanks again!

...there you go...it'll come out easily, unless you see mini-screws down at the corners where its connected...in which case, back them out and lift...(hint: losing these screws will really be a bummer)

...but my money is on it lifting out easily, if memory serves.

Best of luck! RPD

...that's easy...just do as MY wife does...grab the husband by the scruff of the neck and carry him over to the task...

...Each morning is punctuated by my gentle wife handing me a list of printouts for the day's route, and saying "Rick, get out of here". 3hearts
