I have to warn you that don't move your hand away from your mouse so you can click on the stop button right away when you need to.

This lady is a music teacher in a elementary school. I believe the person uploaded this video did it on purpose to embarrass this teacher. People has doubts on why she could beat other qualified teachers to get this piano teaching position.

That is just MEAN!!! Poor lady!

My God, that is CRUEL.

I do not have my students play in competitions or even for auditions very often, but I am a fanatic about preparation when they do face any such situation.

A "train wreck" like that is not something that just happens. That is the result of months or years of absolutely wrong teaching. What a shame, how sad…

Gary...it is entirely possible that the lady was a voice major or majored in another instrument, and she was suddenly asked to play the piano. I'd give her a break.

But, still, ouch...I'm sure she didn't post the video. No one would dare post such a video of herself on Youtube for the world to laugh at.

I can't imagine why anyone would email you about your name.

However, I don't think that just because some of us choose not to, doesn't mean we are "hiding" under an alias, as you say. I don't use my name because this is a public forum and any of my students and/or their families could come across it. We talk about things here that we don't necessarily want those students and families to know we are talking about. I would feel really bad if a student were to think I was talking about him when I was referring to a "problem" and asking for ideas. Some of us consider this a safe place to rant with other people that understand. I wouldn't want a student to see a complaint of mine. These are not usually things I talk about with them.

Also, I assume you meant you DO stand behind everything, not you "don't feel the need .....stand behind" as you said. Just because I'm not using my real name doesn't mean I don't "stand behind everything I say". As I said before, I don't want to chance that I might embarrass a student, or that someone might come across it and misunderstand or take it out of context (like THAT would ever happen on a forum!!)

I'm not criticizing the lady. I'm criticizing the decision made to have her or MAKE her perform in that manner.

I can imagine any of us hearing an adult student bring something like that in to a lesson, not realizing how "off" is. I've heard things about like that from transfer students.

Regardless of who did it, putting it into YouTube that way was an act of cruelty. Just plain mean. frown

She looked like she knew she bombed it. frown
It was cruel to post it. Another good reason to insist on no videos.

Yes, but there is NO way that this piece could have been anywhere close to right in lessons either.

Nerves can cause many things to go wrong, and it is true that some people have severe stage fright.

In this case I believe we are seeing something that goes far beyond that.

But posting it was cruel. In my opinion inexcusable!

I realize this thread is very old but I was doing some research on this piece because my son started to learn it about 2 weeks ago and this thread popped it and I will say is somewhat of a relief. He's struggling with it and it's good to know that he's not the only one.

The predominant cause of struggle with this piece is the rhythm. Most beginning students are not equipped to make the distinction between eighth notes and triplets. There are also some wide stretches between notes.

Yep that's exactly what he's struggling with the rhythm and moving to the proper position- though better this week than last.
