I'm a fairly competent pianist, playing stuff like Fantasie Impromptu and the Pathetique and stuff. Well, every Broadway book I have seen in the music stores around me is one of the Piano/Vocal/Guitar ones. I don't want one of those books, because they are mostly just accompaniment tracks for vocals basically. Does anyone know of any difficult piano-only Broadway books? Preferably by individual musicals?

I got this one running a google search "advanced piano solo broadway music"....or something like that. Do a google search with a variety of terms and you'll find lots of stuff.

I already did find that and reject it. It was all jazz songs. The only reason I asked was because I HAD tried a variety of terms and nothing seemed to fit.

I guess you've tried "The Definitive Broadway Collection (142 songs)" (Hal Leonard). http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Broadway-Collection-Collections/dp/0881889849 I use that one for ideas and then just add my own stuff, runs and fills, to what they have there. I'd be interested as well in finding a book of more advanced arrangements. smile

Most Musical music is written for voice and piano and often includes guitar to increase sales and appeal to guitarists who sing. Vocals with accompaniment is the original medium and is generally how it is marketed.

You have to look for "piano solo" editions, make sure they include the melody in the piano part, and even then they may not be at the level you want.

How about these books:

Otherwise, you might want to go down the path of making your own arrangements or modifying PVG arrangements to include the melody in the piano part.

Have a look at my arrangements on http://michaelsmusic.host22.com - plenty of songs from the shows in there, though whether you would class them as difficult I don't know.
