On Thursday night I had my first night out at a jazz gig in town where a good friend of mine played jazz piano accompanied by a vocalist, clarinet player and drummer.

After the gig I started looking around at ways of getting into jazz piano and found myself here.

Can anyone suggest the best way of getting into jazz - full piano arrangements or lead sheet. Or is there any other alternatives?

Hi keyboardclass,

Welcome to the forums.

There is a lot of information on this in the Pianist's Corner - Non Classical Forum. I'm sure you'll get some answers here, but you will probably find more people who are learning or playing Jazz in that forum.

From what I've read it takes a lot of listening and transcribing to really understand jazz. That, lead sheets, and lots of playing with others are probably going to be the biggest group of suggestions you will get.

Good luck, and when you are ready you can come back here and post in our Piano Bars and at the quarterly ABF recital.

Rich
