I haven't posted in the lounge yet and thought I'd jump in with something I wrote a few years ago. It's actually over two minutes long but I couldn't call it Two and a Half Minuets Flat because that would be silly.

I wrote this for my wife who likes classical music, usually simple straightforward fare, so with this short piece I was going for basic without being too boring or derivative. The little cadenza in the middle needs work - what I recorded is kind of random and sloppy. I think I was hoping for something Rachmaninoff-like but that's kind of hard to pull off wink.

It's sort of hard to hear but my favorite part is a chord in the last play-through of the theme. If it was a better recording or I held it longer you might be more impressed. It's just a nice dissonant chord to keep you honest should you be lulled to sleep by that point in the piece. grin

Comments appreciated.

Very nice! Of course, it's in 4 so it's not a minuet, but that little bit of nerdy minutiae aside, I enjoyed it. The cadenza is really well done, and I loved the wild chord toward the end. Thanks!

Well they say you learn something new every day but they don't tell you that you'll make a fool of yourself on the Internets in doing so... Now I get to come up with a good title, plus I've got a really good reason to write a minuet. Talk about a win-win!

Thanks for listening!

Global announcement: I renamed this piece "Prelude in Bb". If it's not a prelude, either, please don't tell me for a few days. I can't handle too much bad news in a short period of time. This new title isn't very unique, but I'm sure it will soon be more commonly known as "Fingerbreaker's first Prelude in Bb".

There aren't really any rules for a prelude. They tend to only have one or two sections though, in my experience.
