I am looking at buying a used Yamaha CLP 920. Does anyone know anything about this piano? I understand that the Clavinovas are good but don't see anything about the 920.

check it from the Yamaha product history:

it's out in 2000, entry level model. i found its specs:

* 88-note graded hammer action keyboard
* 4 voices including a new stereo piano sample
* Dual voice feature
* 32-note polyphony
* 20W stereo amplification system
* Compact cabinet design with sliding key cover
* Headphone socket for silent practice (headphones optional extra)

This could be as much as 9 yrs.
old, which is considered old in the fast-paced digital piano arena.
Moreover, this was the economy
model in the 900 line, with 32
note polyphony, a spartan stand,
and 2 pedals, while the others
had three.

This would be a good piano, but
you shouldn't be paying much for
it, no matter what it sold for new,
how good condition it is in, or
if it plays like a new Clavinova
costing thousands.

Digital pianos are essentially
a computer with a keyboard and speakers. If you open up any dp,
all you'll see inside is a few computer chips and other electrical
components, connected to the
keyboard and speakers with wires.
And they lose value fast, like
a used pc. This apparently
was in the ~$1900 price range
new. How much would a pc that
sold for $1900 new 9 yrs. ago
be worth today? Maybe about $300.
That's what you should offer for it,
and the seller should grab for
that, because you can get new digitals
today with better specs and full
warranty for about $500.
