Hey folks,

OKay, just asking for some really general feedback on a vague question. I have never played piano before, and don't know squat about them. My background is rhythm and lead rock and blues guitar. I have become very bored with that, and want to play some "real" music (Classical).

Bought a piano yesterday. It is a 1994 Baldwin-Hamilton that was a practice piano at the University of Michigan music school. The outside is kind of rough, but the inside looks like it was manufactured yesterday. To my untrained ear, it really has an amazing sound. I played each note, and only one was not right - muffled, but the guy said that is a simple adjustment. I know this was from the Made in China era, and yes I know there are probably many things I could have done differently and better - like have a tech look at it - look at more before I bought one - But All I can say is that it was a very emotional purchase - Yeah I am a dumb-ass, I just fell in love with the thing.

I paid $850. Did I get burnt / How bad???

Thanks!

S

Get it tuned. Ask the tech.

Thst's not a bad price. People try and get $500 for an acrosonic. If you like it, you didn't get burned.

Better than spending a lot more and not being in love!

Think about the final scene of The Music Man. It really isn't about the sound, it is about how the sound makes you feel.

I hope the "honeymoon" lasts.

You didn't get burnt....any time you can get something you like for under 1K, into your house, you're doing fairly well actually.

The Baldwin Hamilton is a strong work-horse institutional piano. I don't believe it was built in China in 1994. If nothing fatally wrong, $850 would be a wonderful buy.
