Hi,

Is it worth me getting a new sampled digital piano when the Roland V-piano is now available to buy? I had my heart set on either the HP207 or CLP380 (at a push). But for an extra grand or so I can get the V-piano! A modelled rather than sampled piano. Is the clp380 for example not going to be any where near as good/accurate a piano as the V-piano? I am guessing the speaker system on the clp380 will make up alot of ground however when comparing the 2 pianos.

Firsy of, I think you'll find the price difference is more than you think. By the time you add in decent speakers and a stand for the V-Piano it could be several thousand more. And you won't have any sounds or features except for the piano sound.

Most people here think that the V-Piano is already slightly superior to most sampled pianos. However, a minority think the sound feels "artificial" or "cold".

I would say, play all three instruments, *accurately* price out the *total* cost, and decide which is best for you in touch, sound and price. And keep in mind that the V-Piano is a first generation instrument. The longer you wait, the better and cheaper the modelling technology will be.

I definitely wouldn't say that sampled instruments are obsolete now, even at the high end. Look at the Yamaha AvantGrand, for example.

The V-piano doesn't have external speakers, so you would have to invest in those. If you're playing through headphones, it won't matter. I tried it right after playing the HP 207 in the same shop, and the difference was amazing. You should try them all, preferably one after the other.

V-Piano would be (and is) my only choice now. If you are serious about playing piano.

Well, I went down to GC, and played the V piano again. It's hard to do, it's so noisy there, and someone had messed up the settings and I couldn't get it back to the classical sound. But it's dreamy, for sure. I though the Yamaha 300 (forgot the letters) had a very nice touch and decent sound as did the Roland F-7.

Still, I'm glad I bought a lower end digital piano for now, for fun and for blues/rock/pop, because whichever way I go with my "real" piano, it'll be the V-Piano or an acoustic. I just really can't play classical on a digital piano.
